Summary

I have spent the last seven years starting up my own small company, GPS Precision Grade. This has allotted me the opportunity to bring together the skills and understanding that I have acquired as a grade checker and foreman over the previous 25 years as a member of the Operating Engineer’s Union. I have developed a comprehensive understanding the AGTEK and Carlson AutoCAD software. Much of my work has involved calculating and analyzing earthwork quantities for projects in development.

From 2003 to 2006 much of my work for Centex Homes, KB Homes and K. Hovnanian Homes involved recording topographies of earthwork removals and keyways with my GPS equipment then processing the data for reconciling quantities.

In July 2005 I was contracted with Otay River Constuctors to create a precise 3D model of the HWY 54/125 interchange and the HWY 125 mainline and ramps. This model was used to aid field layout and to guide GPS outfitted heavy equipment.

In August 2006 I began committing the majority of my time to consulting for Rancho Mission Viejo through “GRIT” (Geomatic Resource Information Team). This involved modeling preliminary project designs, future utilities as well as the remedial grading analysis. These models were used to project grading budgets and to better visualize the project. Also the 3D models were merged with models of existing utilities and structures to assess conflicts in the initial stages of plan development and expedite modification without delays.

In May 2008 I began working again with Otay River Constuctors to assist in reconciling the full project earthwork quantities and analyzing the impacts of change orders and delays. The scope of my work included 3D modeling of the final product as well as alternate concepts and preliminary designs at critical benchmarks. These models were quantified to be used as backup for claim submittals in conjunction with ORC’s in house design team quantities where possible. Exhibits and 3D video animations of the various designs and conflicts were created to backup claims and assist in litigation.

In July 2010 I was contracted Tri-Power Engineering and University Park, LLC to record and model keyway topographies, and the documentation of sub-drains and GeoGrid at the University Park project.

I updated my website in 2011 and have added examples of my work, including videos of 3D drive through animation. Here you will also find some of the completed projects with which I have recently been involved. Please take some time to visit the site, check out the examples and consider the applications to projects you may have coming up.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Mike Palhegyi
